5 Sparkling Cocktail Trends & Craft Drinks for 2018

The 4th of July is the perfect time for Americans to imbibe and gather with friends and family at their favorite local watering holes. This time of year also provides a great opportunity for your bartenders and staff to serve up creative Independence Day cocktails in celebration of the holiday.

These sparkling alcoholic drinks and patriotic cocktails are American-themed and include sparkling water to keep your Independence Day drink menu both festive and on-trend.

Red White and Blue Wine Spritzer 

This 4th of July spritzer is refreshingly patriotic with its red, white, and blue hues. It’s an ideal “shareable” pitcher option for your Independence Day cocktail menu.

Ingredients (serves 4):

- 1 cup simple syrup

- ½ cup fresh sliced strawberries

- ½ cup fresh blueberries

- 1 bottle dry white wine of your choice

- sparkling water, club soda, or tonic water

- ice

- sprigs of fresh mint for garnish 

Instructions:

- Fill pitcher with ice and top it with the fresh berries (saving some to place in glasses).

- Pour in the simple syrup followed by the wine until pitcher is ¾ full.

- Top everything off with sparkling water, stir and serve in glasses with ice.

- Garnish glasses with fresh sprig of mint.

American Beauty

This aptly-named 4th of July cocktail is a refreshing blend of American-made gin, fresh lemon juice, raspberries and mint.

Ingredients:

- 2 oz. American gin

- 1 oz. fresh lemon juice

- ¾ oz. simple syrup

- 3 fresh raspberries

- 3 fresh blueberries

- 4-6 fresh mint leaves

- Sparkling water/soda

- lemon wheel

Instructions:

- Add lemon juice, fresh mint, and berries into a mixing glass and muddle lightly.

- Add all remaining ingredients into the mixing glass along with ice and shake vigorously.

- Fine-strain over ice into a double old-fashioned glass.

- Top with a splash of sparkling water/soda.

- Garnish with lemon wheel and one raspberry.

Americano 

The Americano is simple, classic and perfect for your 4th of July menu. This craft cocktail is both fruity and bittersweet (sparkling water reduces the sweetness level). 

Mixing Tip: Consider reducing the amount of Campari and increasing the amount of sweet vermouth if a patron tells you they don’t like their drinks too dry.

Ingredients:

- 1 ½ oz. Campari

- 1 ½ oz. sweet vermouth

- 3 oz. sparkling water/soda

- ice

- orange slice

Instructions:

- Fill a highball glass with ice.

- Pour in the Campari and then the sweet vermouth.

- Finish with sparkling water.

- Garnish with fresh orange slice, or twist.

Red, White & Bourbon

Created by Chef Lee Anne Wong, this 4th of July cocktail recipe serves two guests and uses America’s native spirit -- bourbon!

Ingredients (serves 2):

- ¼ cup lime juice, freshly squeezed and strained

- ¼ cup lemon juice, freshly squeezed and strained

- ½ cup orange juice, freshly squeezed and strained

- 4 parts bourbon (chef suggests Maker’s Mark)

- 1 part simple syrup

- 4 fresh mint leaves, plus more for garnish

- Assorted berries: raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries

- Sparkling water/soda

- Ice

Instructions:

- Combine the juices, bourbon, simple syrup, and mint leaves in a large shaker.

- Add ice and shake vigorously.

- Strained into 2 tall glasses over ice.

- Top with a splash of sparkling water.

- Cut berries and mint leaves for garnish.

Sparkling Pineapple Upside Down Cake Martini

Pineapple upside down cake was first popularized in 1950s and 1960s America, but still has its place on bar menus! If your patrons love the nostalgic taste of pineapple upside down cake, then they will adore this 4th of July cocktail that tastes just like the real deal!

Ingredients:

- 1 oz. cake-flavored vodka

- 2 oz. pineapple juice

- ½ T vanilla syrup

- ½ T maraschino cherry juice

- Squeeze of fresh lime juice

- Sparkling water/soda

- Ice

- Maraschino cherries, lime wedges, pineapple slices for garnish.

Instructions:

- Add vodka, pineapple juice, vanilla syrup, maraschino cherry juice, and lime juice into a shaker.

- Add ice to the shake, and shake until chilled.

- Pour over ice and add sparkling water to taste.

- Garnish with maraschino cherries, lime, and a slice of pineapple.

Blueberry-Strawberry Mojito

This berry-filled mojito is ideal for 4th of July cocktail menus. Not only is it pretty and patriotic with its red, white, and blue coloring, it’s deliciously refreshing on July days.

Ingredients:

- 3 T fresh blueberries, plus additional for garnish.

- 2 fresh strawberries, diced, plus additional for garnish.

- 10 to 15 fresh mint leaves, plus additional for garnish.

- ½ lime, juiced

- 1 tsp granulated sugar

- 1 ½ oz. white rum

- Ice

- Sparkling water/soda

Instructions:

- Muddle the berries, mint, lime juice, and sugar in the bottom of a tall serving glass until sugar is disolved and berries break down.

- Add the rum to the muddled berry mixture and stir to combine.

- Fill the glass with ice.

- Top everything with sparkling water and stir to combine. 

- Garnish with mint leaves and berries.
