Workplace Wellness: 5 Easy Ways to Drink More Water at Work

It’s no secret that drinking water provides several healthy benefits. Since our bodies are made of roughly 60 percent water, we can suffer from dehydration if we don’t get enough H2O. But as we go about our busy work days, it can get difficult to remember to drink more water. Even mild dehydration can lead to decreased productivity, that dreaded afternoon brain fog, and make us more susceptible to illness.

If you’re wondering how to drink more water every day in the office, the following tips can help you and your staff stay hydrated, refreshed, and alert all day long.

1) Use a Hydration App

While your office staff should normally keep personal phone use to a minimum, encouraging them to install drinking water apps on their smartphones can actually help them be more productive and hydrated at work. A hydration app keeps track of exactly how many glasses of water you have been drinking throughout the day. These apps also remind the user when it’s time to drink more.

Before introducing the idea to your staff, search for a good, free hydration app that is easy for everyone to use. Then, turn it into a fun challenge with a monthly prize to encourage everyone to stay on top of their goals!

2) Install an Office Water Dispenser

Offering your employees clean, filtered drinking water is a common necessity these days. And installing a countertop water dispenser for your office staff is just another simple solution to get everyone drinking more water. Here are just some good reasons why you should install an office water dispenser:

- They are cost-efficient.

- They utilize your office’s own water system to dispense a consistent flow of clean, filtered water.

- They cut back on carbon emissions and promote better workplace sustainability initiatives.

- They offer something for every employee: whether they like chilled sparkling water, chilled still water, or room-temperature still water.

3) Keep Hydrating Snacks in the Break Room

Just as eating healthy foods can ward off illness in the workplace, choosing to give your employees the option of hydrating, nutritious snacks in your office break room can give everyone a wellness boost. Consider having water-filled fruits and vegetables available for work snacks (think watermelon, strawberries, apples, lettuce, spinach, celery, and tomatoes) to keep your staff’s thirst quenched all throughout the day.

4) Keep Water Enhancers on Hand

While some of your employees will happily drink water every day, others simply don’t like the taste of plain water. If quite a few staff members can’t stomach water, try keeping some healthy, natural water enhancers next to your water dispenser. Think citrus fruits like lemons, limes, and oranges. And even consider having a small break room herb garden with countertop herb pots that can be easily added to enhance the taste of water. Your staff will have a good time coming up with new, tasty concoctions with both sparkling and still water. Or, you can print out healthy sparkling water recipes to be displayed on the break room wall or refrigerator.

5) Offer Reusable Water Bottles

Think about it: If all staff members had reusable water bottles sitting on their desks every day, it would offer motivation for them to stay hydrated. Instead of relying on everyone to purchase their own reusable water bottles, consider buying reusable glass bottles, or stainless steel water bottles that they can refill with refreshing, filtered water from your office water dispenser.

These are just some easy ways to drink more water at work, but starting with these tips will surely benefit the health of your employees and your business.
